There's going to be a lot less posted up here for a while. This was supposed to be a chronicle of all the crazy things that happen on my way to and from work- but since I was made redundant today that's going to be difficult. So today, in honour of that event, I'm going to digress for a little while.
Quest Solutions has been a great experience for me. It's introduced me to some new friends (and let me catch up with an old one), sent me to America three times, and got me back into some form of educational role which I was enjoying. There are good people there and I hope that by losing me, you've made enough of a saving to survive. There's a hell of a lot of effort gone into that product, and it would be a dreadful thing to see that wasted. So (if any of you are reading) get on the phone to someone at Lawson and ask why the UK Payroll press release never made it to the website. I'd love to hear their response. Bill, Pete- I was serious at Lunchtime. I really am considering training as a driving instructor, so you'll know what to look for.
But enough of this. Since it's my last drive home from work for a while, it's appropriate that there was something to fume about and be frustrated with- particularly with the mood I was in.
Just because there is an accident on the hard shoulder, and police in attendance, this does not make it a spectator event. Not only does it cause massive traffic problems but it puts you in danger. A couple of days ago there was a similar bump on the M1 Southbound, just south of J25. In the queue to get past it, about half a mile north of J25, was an almost identical accident- it looked very much like someone had been driving too close when the driver in front braked for the standing traffic. The car behind the second driver was also involved.
Also I'd like to apologise to the biker I nearly hit in Northampton on Saturday. I'm usually very careful around bikes and until this weekend the only gesture I'd ever had from one was a thankyou wave. To the rider concerned- I wish I knew where the hell you'd come from because I'm obviously not looking in the right places. But you didn't appear to want to stop and discuss it. Since I can't rectify the situation, a public apology is the best I can do, even though you'll never read it.
So that's it. No more driving to work in the forseeable future. But don't worry, I might still go to the NEC for the motor show- and I'm sure that will give me something to write about. As will a trip to Cornwall at New Year. And hopefully there'll be interviews shortly- who knows, maybe even a different route to work?
